Spring Has Sprung

The last 2 weeks of March and the 1st week of April have seen a change in the seasonal calendar with warmer drier weather allowing hard pressed farmers to focus on planting spring crops and feeding winter crops.  It is amazing at this time of year how a sickly looking winter wheat or barley crop can suddenly burst forward with a bit of sun on its back.  Much like many of us, the return of longer days and the chance to throw off the winter coat can lift the spirits as new life appears in the hedgerows and lambing sheds, as the prospect of summer gives us all something to look forward to after the dog days of winter.
